HARARE – Motswana dancer and musician Slizer has arrived in Zimbabwe for the late Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo’s commemoration gig.
The highly-anticipated show is scheduled for October 20 at the Harare Gardens.
Slize,r who has become a regular performer in Zimbabwe, said she was looking forward to performing at Dhewa’s commemorations as she missed out on the chance to collaborate with him.
“We hadn’t met with him but we performed at the same gig in Botswana but we were not able to meet,” the vivacious dancer and singer told the Daily News.
“I know he was good and talented as I have watched his DVDs. I felt unhappy considering that we didn’t manage to hold shows here in Zimbabwe before he died. So this is time for me to honour him.”
Dhewa died on October 15 2011 after having been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the white blood cells.
Slizer said she was grateful for the overwhelming support she enjoys from her fans in Zimbabwe.
“I love my Zimbabwean fans as they have always supported me,” she said.
“I hope they will keep on supporting me and I promise that I will not disappoint. The response I have received ever since I started coming here is great; in fact it has improved impressively.”
Slizer is set to release a DVD which includes two songs glorifying Zimbabwean tourism destinations.
