MASVINGO – At least four candidates are vying for the Bikita West seat that fell vacant following the ouster of Munyaradzi Kereke.
Kereke, who is appealing against his ouster by Zanu PF in the Constitutional Court, will likely square off with newly-formed National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) party spokesperson, Madock Chivasa, preferred Zanu PF candidate Elias Musakwa, and the MDC’s Heya Shoko.
The by-election will be an acid test for the NCA, which is fielding Chivasa, who hails from Bikita and went to high school in the district.
Chivasa is set to be endorsed as the party’ candidate during a taskforce meeting slated for the October 27.
Chivasa confirmed his willingness to represent his NCA party in the contest but said he was waiting to be appointed by the task force.
“The NCA national taskforce will meet on the 27th of this month to make a decision on it,” he said.
“We are also closely following the Kereke case at court because it’s the one that will determine whether there is an election or not.
“But as Madock Chivasa, I am more than prepared to be the NCA candidate.”
