HARARE – A self-proclaimed Harare prophet has been dragged to the maintenance court by his ex-wife, after he allegedly neglected his family.
Annette Nyakudya yesterday approached the Harare Civil Court seeking a $200 monthly allowance from Ephraim Kachaka.
The lanky “prophet” expressed shock at the amount of money his estranged wife was demanding.
“Where does she think I can get that money from when I am not even employed? I have four children whom I send to school and I also have another wife. I rely on menial jobs,” said Kachaka.
Magistrate Milton Serima asked Nyakudya how Kachaka was going to be able to raise such an amount of money, when he is not formally employed.
“He told me that he earns between $300 and $400 every month. He did not tell the court that he is a ‘prophet’ and is based in Botswana,” said Nyakudya.
Kachaka shot back: “I am a prophet and I cannot deny that.”
In his judgment, Serima ordered Kachaka to pay $60 every month towards the upkeep of their children.
