BULAWAYO – A Plumtree villager has been hauled before the courts for raping his niece.
Far Miralaki Dube, 27, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Takundwa Mtetwa last week facing two counts of rape and one of assault.
Dube was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to October 22.
The State alleges that sometime in August, the 13-year-old girl was sent by her grandmother to her uncle’s homestead to collect some milk.
On her way there, she met Dube and they proceeded to his place.
While at the homestead, Dube asked the complainant to wait for him in his bedroom while he collected the milk.
When he returned, he offered her the milk.
When she was about to return home, he stopped her saying she could go the following day since it was now dark. She refused, the court heard.
The accused then forcibly removed her skirt and pant and raped her.
After the rape, Dube allegedly threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone.
The court further heard that after spending the night at the accused’s place, the minor woke up the next morning, returned home and kept the incident to herself fearful of Dube’s threats.
On September 25, the accused asked her to accompany him to his homestead but she refused.
He then assaulted her using a stick.
Dube later dragged the teenager to his place and raped her again.
The minor woke up early the next morning and escaped to her homestead where she told her grandmother what had happened. The matter was reported to the police leading to Dube’s arrest.
