Harare City in injury blow

HARARE – Harare City are sweating for the services of influential midfielder Nathan Ziwini and captain Godfrey Nguwodzawo ahead of their Mbada Diamonds Cup quarterfinal match against Hwange on Saturday.

The Sunshine Boys has been relatively injury free this season, but Bigboy Mawiwi is worried about the injury of his two key players, who have been instrumental to their fine run this year.

The duo picked knocks in their 1-1 draw against Chicken Inn.  City coach Mawiwi said the pair’s fitness will be assessed before they can make a decision.

“Nguwodzawo and Ziwini did not train today. We are not yet sure with the extent of their injuries,” Mawiwi told the Daily News on Tuesday.

“The doctors will assess the two players so that we can prepare properly for the tie. These are players whom you don’t want to lose especially at this height of the season.”

Mawiwi, whose team is still in the reckoning for the Premiership title said they are looking forward to do well in the Mbada Cup.

Harare City are currently third on the log tied on 41 points with second placed Highlanders.

“Hwange are tough opponents but we also want to do well in this cup. Despite the injuries of those guys our preparations are going on well. Cup games are tricky but the important thing is to ensure you progress to the level.

“It’s a 50-50 situation but I am confident we can make it to the next round. We only need to stay focused on every match.”

In other matches, current Castle Premiership log leaders and defending champions Dynamos will be at home against How Mine at Rufaro. Calisto Pasuwa’s men needed a late Clive Kawinga’s strike to beat Tripple B 1-0 and progress to the next stage.

Highlanders who beat Triangle 3-2 in the first round were paired against the army side Buffaloes at Mucheke in Masvingo.

Saturday: CAPS United v Chicken Inn (Ascot SS9), Harare City v Hwange (Dulibadzimu)
