Mudiwa gets Nigerian kudos

HARARE – Gospel star Mudiwa Hood’s video for the single 10 over 10 has made a breakthrough in Nigeria where it has been lauded by Freshwave Channel Television.

The enthralling video, released two weeks ago and which has generated over 8 000 hits on YouTube, has been played several times.

The colourful Mudiwa believes success in the big Nigerian market augurs well for his plans to be an international star.

“I am overwhelmed. I received an email from a guy called Joe of Fresh Wave Channel saying they had seen and liked my video,” he told the Daily News.

“They have already started playing it and he told me it is promising to be a future hit in their country.
“The breakthrough in Nigeria has encouraged me to make plans to make it available to One G, Channel O and Trace. It is part of my plan for getting my music international”.

The Ndaita Mari singer has also been encouraged by the praises that have been showered on him by top Nigerian gospel stars Uche Ago and Sonnie Badu.

In one message shown to the Daily News by Mudiwa, Uche wrote: “Great video man congrats ooo, proud of you”.

Mudiwa hopes to collaborate with the internationally popular Nigerian duo.

“I am in regular communication with Uche and Badu and hopes for future collaborations are high,” he said.

Interestingly, some of Mudiwa’s music carries elements of Nigerian beats probably because his producer Cyril Taiga, who sometimes backs him, stayed in Nigeria for four years.

The video of 10 over 10, which was produced by Bless “Be Identified” Gatsi, was shot at flamboyant businessman Phillip Chiyangwa’s Borrowdale house.

The classy video, which exudes international quality, depicts the transformation of Mudiwa from a pauper to a flamboyant personality who lives large.

“I am trying to market the best product on earth and his name is Jesus. I was motivated by the lifestyles of prominent people like Strive Masiyiwa and Phillip Chiyangwa who started off as ordinary persons but went on to acquire fortunes,” said Mudiwa.

“My music serves to empower and not just entertain people. I was trying to remind the youths that Jesus can fulfil their desires only if they seek him first,” he added.
