HARARE – The meteorological service department has advised that the country is experiencing very hot temperatures with some places like Chiredzi recording extreme temperatures yesterday.
Chiredzi yesterday recorded 43,1°C, Lupane 39°C, Zaka 41°C, Masvingo 38°C and KweKwe 37°C, breaking their 1978 records.
According to the meteorological department, the conditions are being caused by hot tropical air that is sweeping across much of the subcontinent.
Officials said the weather is expected to persist tomorrow, but by Sunday temperatures should start falling, especially in Masvingo and Matabeleland South.
The met department has advised the public to drink lots of water and keep in the shade as much as possible.
“Vulnerable members of the society, for example children and the elderly should be encouraged to keep indoors as much as possible,” said the met department in a statement.
