HARARE – A 28-year-old Mufakose man yesterday appeared before the courts facing charges of murdering a woman.
Freddy Josam is alleged to have had sexual intercourse with the now deceased Dadirai Mupaya before he strangled her.
Magistrate Anita Tshuma remanded Josam in custody and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
Allegations are that on the evening of August 22 this year, Mupaya left her house in the company of Josam going to Samuriwo Shopping Centre.
The two allegedly returned to Mupaya’s house where they slept together.
After their business, they returned to Samuriwo Shopping Centre to continue drinking beer.
The court heard that they were seen by vendors leaving the shopping centre together on the same night.
Prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira told the court that Josam was seen dumping Mupaya’s unconscious body by her gate before running away into the night.
Cuthbert Shoko claims to have given chase to Josam but could not catch up. The alleged murderer fled the country for Botswana.
Mupaya later died and a post mortem conducted by Gabriel Aguero concluded that death was caused by asphyxia due to strangulation and assault.
Josam was later arrested on September 21 in Mufakose after he returned home thinking that his offence had died down.
