HARARE – The leadership of Zimbabwe’s football fans has commended Mbada Diamonds Company for incentivising fans ahead of this year’s edition of the Mbada Diamonds Cup.
Zimbabwe National Football Supporters (ZNFS) liaison officer Simeon Jamanda praised Mbada for slashing gate entrance charges for this year’s competition to $1.
This year’s edition of the Mbada Diamonds Cup roars into life at the weekend.
“We rally behind the proposal to charge a dollar for football,” Jamanda said.
“We would like to thank them for alleviating the plight of fans. They have also chosen some of the fans to be the official mascots for the 2013 edition.
“We have also pleaded with them to introduce a competition for the fans.
“We advise them to encourage fans to come before 2pm to avoid stampedes. We now truly believe that Mbada are harnessing diamonds for the people.
“By underwriting some of the tournament costs, like paying allowances for players and paying for security, they have shown that they are the sponsor of choice for football in Zimbabwe.”
Zimbabwe Soccer Supporters Association leader Chris ‘‘Romario’’ Musekiwa echoed Jamanda’s sentiments, saying Mbada have acknowledged the importance of fans in giving the company maximum mileage.
“As fans, we owe Mbada a great deal of gratitude for that very noble gesture,” Musekiwa said.
