ZVISHAVANE – Masimba Dinyero has joined FC Platinum as assistant coach to his long-time friend Lloyd Mutasa with Tendai Chikuni being relegated to the juniors.
In a statement, FC Platinum said Dinyero brings a wealth of experience, having distinguished himself as a player at Black Mambas and Dynamos.
“FC Platinum Football Club advises as part of its on-going efforts to strengthen its premier league team, it has appointed Masimba Dinyero as assistant to Lloyd Mutasa, who was recently brought in as a development coach and acting as a head coach for senior team.
“Dinyero brings a wealthy of experience as a leading soccer player and a coach in the country. Our expectations are that he will be great assistance to Mutasa. Meanwhile, the club has also re-assigned Chikuni to the development side, where he will partner the existing technical team in building a stronger team.”
Dinyero has over the years been a loyal friend and assistant to Mutasa since the duo left Dynamos in 2001 to join Sporting Lions.
The two worked together at Highway, Flame Lily, Kiglon and lately Dynamos in 2011 when Mutasa was fired in August of that year.
Predictably Chikuni, who seemed to have fallen out of favour with supporters and some executive members, was demoted to the juniors.
Chikuni had survived two tenures when he remained behind following the sacking of Rahman Gumbo in 2012.
Chikuni was in charge of the team for the remainder of the 2012 season before reverting to his role as assistant coach when the platinum miners appointed Zambian Tenant Chilumba at the start of this year.
Chilumba, however, dumped the Zvishavane side and returned to his native Zambia, where he is now in charge of Power Dynamos.
Upon Chilumba’s departure, Chikuni remained in charge in an interim basis before Mutasa’s arrival last month.
Platinum have been blowing hot and cold this season and are currently on sixth position on the log with 29 points from 18 games.
