HARARE – A tragic fire took the lives of three girls at Nyamukondiwa Village in Uzumba last Saturday, police have confirmed.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) would like to confirm the death of three female juveniles namely Nashel Zanga (5), Natalia Zanga (2) and Vimbainashe Makuvhu aged one year after the kitchen hut they were in caught fire,” police spokesperson Charity Charamba said.
She said the trio, who were in the care of their grandmother Enna Kazingizi while the parents had gone to sell tomatoes at Nhakiwa Township, may have started the fire.
“Whilst at the kraal, Kazingizi noticed that the kitchen hut was on fire and rushed back home shouting for help,” Chjaramba said.
“Together with other villagers, they tried to put out the fire but to no avail resulting in the death of the three children who were in the hut.”
Mutawatawa Police Station retrieved and ferried the bodies to Mutawatawa District Hospital for a post-mortem which revealed they succumbed to intensive burns.
Charamba said though ?investigations were still on-going, no foul play is suspected.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the three might have tampered with the fire resulting in the hut catching fire,” she said, further warning the public against leaving children unattended.
