HARARE – A High Court judge is Thursday expected to hear a case of a Chivhu man who allegedly raped a four-year-old cousin before murdering her.
David Masikinye is facing charges of striking the minor’s head on a tree trunk and killing her.
According to court documents, Masikinye stayed with his grandmother Erina Musarira and the girl.
Musarira allegedly sent Masikinye to fetch firewood in a nearby bush in August last year. Masikinye asked the minor to accompany him.
Prosecutor Public Mpofu told the court that while in the bush, Masikinye raped the four-year-old girl, who screamed for help.
Masikinye allegedly kicked the girl on the throat and she fell unconscious, before carrying her to a secluded place behind an anthill.
He held the girl’s feet and struck her head against a tree trunk several times until she died, the court heard.
According to State papers, Masikinye abandoned the body in the bush and went back home.
After he was asked about the child’s whereabouts, Masikinye allegedly lied to his grandmother that she had gone to play with other children.
Musarira together with the assistance of other villagers later discovered the girl’s lifeless body lying under a tree in the bush.
A post mortem result showed that the girl died due to head injuries.
