HARARE – Neighbours Churchill Boys High and Roosevelt Girls High School sailed past their opponents to book places at the Volleyball National Finals set for September.
The two schools qualified for the finals after winning the Under-20 Greater Harare Volleyball tournament that was held at Ellis Robbins Boys High last Friday.
The tournament was played on a round robin format with three pools of three teams for both boys and girls.
National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) Under-20 girls defending champions Roosevelt thumped Oriel Girls High 3-0 in the final.
This was Roosevelt’s third title in a row after winning the tournament in 2011 and 2012.
Roosevelt have also won the tournament a record five time a title they share with Mufakose High 2.
On their way to the final, Roosevelt topped Pool A after beating Conelius Hope 2-0 and Mufakose 2 by 2-1.
In the boys’ category, Churchill from Pool A reclaimed the title they lost to Cornway College last year with a 3-0 win over Mufakose in the final.
Churchill beat Ellis Robins 3-0 in the semifinals to book a final date against Mufakose, who accounted for Prince Edward 3-0 in the other semifinal.
Churchill have now won the tournament a record seven times with their previous six victories coming in consecutive years between 2001 and 2006.
