Rhinos back to winning ways

KADOMA – Black Rhinos on Sunday finally remembered how to win after beating FC Platinum 2-0 at Rimuka Stadium in to ease their relegation woes and halt their six-match losing streak.

With goals from Lot Chiwunga and an own goal from Thabani Kamusoko, Rhinos took their tally to 16 points, moving off the root of the Castle Premiership table to 14th place.

The result saw FC Platinum move down to sixth place as they remain with 26 points after 16 games.

Black Rhinos started the match with blistering pace and it took them only five minutes to get the opener through Chiwunga, very much against the run of play.

Chiwunga combined well with veteran striker and Premier League returnee Gilbert Mushangazhike before shooting past FC Platinum goalie Francis Tizai.

The platinum miners could have found the equaliser three minutes later but Nelson Maziwisa’s effort off a Donald Ngoma cross ricocheted off the cross bar.

In the 17th minute Rhinos were denied a penalty by referee Munyaradzi Majoni after Daniel Veremu handled Trust Machacha’s cross inside the box.

FC Platinum had a chance to level through Joel Ngodzo in the 45th minute after he had benefitted from a waiver by the referee.

Ngodzo was clearly in an offside position but he took long to pull the trigger allowing Rhinos goalie Shadreck Jimu to recover and clear the ball to safety.

Lloyd Mutasa made some changes at half time bringing in Mihleli Sibanda and Allan Gahadzikwa for Donald Ngoma and Joel Ngodzo respectively.

But despite the Zvishavane side’s intent to get back to level terms, it was Rhinos who would further surge ahead with Kamusoko scoring an own goal in the 67th minute.

Kamusoko turned the ball past his own keeper, after miscuing a cross from Chiwunga.
