BULAWAYO – A Bulawayo court has remanded a tenant out of custody for allegedly raping his landlord’s 15-year-old daughter.
Robson Dombo of Mhlope Flats in Nguboyenja denied the charges when he appeared before magistrate Takunda Mtetwa. He was remanded out of custody to July 10 on a $100 bail.
Dombo is represented by Modicai Donga of Lazarus and Sariff Law Firm.
Prosecutor Malvin Nzombe told the court that on June 22 this year at around 2 pm, Dombo visited his landlord’s house, where the complainant and her young brother were watching television.
He was visibly drunk when he entered the girl’s house and joined the siblings.
When Dombo finished drinking the beer he had, he asked the siblings to go and buy him more beer, but the girl refused.
He ended up going with the complainant’s young brother.
When Dombo returned, he continued watching soccer with his landlord’s children before the girl’s young sister complained of a tooth ache and was taken to rest in the bedroom.
The girl later fell asleep on the sofa and Dombo is alleged to have raped her once.
She screamed for help, awakening her sister who stormed into the room and found Dombo naked.
Dombo is alleged to have zipped up his trousers and dashed out of the room.
The girl’s sister alerted neighbours — Paul Katanga and his wife — who reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.
