TRIANGLE – Dynamos booked their BancABC Sup8r semifinal berth with a 2-0 win over Buffaloes at Gibbo Stadium on Sunday.
First half goals from defender Augustine Mbara and midfielder Russell Madamombe were enough for the Glamour Boys to exert revenge on the Mutare-based soldiers.
Buffaloes were the first team to defeat DeMbare in the league a week ago when they earned a 3-2 win at Sakubva Stadium.
Gibbo hosted a double header on Sunday as Monomotapa and Motor Action locked horns in the earlier clash.
Agrippa Murimba’s second half strike earned Monomotapa a 1-0 win over the Mighty Bulls.
The two teams could not find the final touch to break the deadlock in the first half that ended goalless.
The score line could have been different had either side’s strikers been more clinical in front of goal.
But with both teams meeting coming against the backdrop of poor league results it was no surprise that both sides chased an opening from the first whistle.
In a fairly balanced first half, Monoz had the first opportunity of the game in the ninth minute, but Charles Rukwanhi freekick was off target.
A minute later Douglas Walaza’s freekick went straight to Monoz keeper Tapiwa Zvaita.
Motor Action also went close when Misheck Mburayi’s flashing header and Ngonidzashe Maviri’s acrobatic shot all caused some anxious moments for Zvaita.
Yves Ebabali’s long range drive on 24 minutes also brought the best out of Zvaita.
Monoz, however, kept fighting and Murimba could have thrust his side into the lead had his first touch not let him down following a clever move involving Ronald Chitiyo and Nelson Meson near the half hour mark.
Murimba, however, found the breakthrough in the dying stages of the match.
