Rhinos in contentious win
HARARE – Brighton Chandisaita yesterday scored a contentious penalty to ease Black Rhinos woes and pile the pressure on Castle Premiership newcomers Triangle here yesterday.
The result saw the army side move two places into 13th place with 12 points whilst Triangle dropped into 15th place with seven defeats from 12 games.
The bottom of the table clash was an open ended affair with both teams creating a flurry of opportunities but neither seemingly able to make it count.
It was however the visitors who would draw first blood through Lameck Nhamo’s 21st minute strike before Rhinos got back into contention with Lot Chiwunga’s 47th minute strike.
But it was Rhinos spot kick awarded in the 75th minute that would hog the limelight of the match.
By virtue of the way it was awarded by referee Robert Mogorosi, the penalty doused the spirit of the match.
Mogorosi handed Rhinos the spot kick after adjudging Triangle goalie Brighton Chipula to have had the intention to elbow Black Rhinos Trust Torovasei inside the box.
Though there was no contact between Chipula and Torovasei but Chipula’s intention, which will be debated for a long time to come by fans who witnessed the match, was enough for Mogorosi to award the penalty.
Chandisaita then stepped up to send Chipula the wrong way and with that goal seal the three points for the army side.
Triangle coach Gishion Ntini could not hold back his frustration at the referee’s decision and was some distance into the pitch before being restrained by fourth official Ruzive Ruzive.
“The game was ours, but in some of the situations we are being disadvantage. I mean look at that penalty, what for?” Ntini bemoaned after the match.
However his opposite number, Arthur Tutani, welcomed the victory as a step in the right direction for his troops but admitted they was still a lot of work to be done by his side.
On the penalty decision he said: “I didn’t see the penalty incident very well from where I was standing but the linesman and referee were close. I say tough luck to Triangle.”
