Wendall out on bail, DJ Munya still held

HARARE – A Harare magistrate has freed Big Brother Africa (BBA) reality TV show winner, Wendall Parson on $200 bail.

Magistrate Donald Ndirowei granted bail to Parson on Monday afternoon. Parson was arrested for allegedly defrauding $25 000 from an insurance company.

According to State papers, the celebrity is accused of forging documents which he used to claim insurance for his Ford Ranger vehicle that was involved in an accident on March 16 this year.

Prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira told the court the car was not insured when it crashed while Parson was travelling from Bulawayo to Harare together with his brother.

The State says Parson went on to insure the vehicle two days after the accident and tried to make an insurance claim of $25 000 from Alliance Insurance Company, prompting the firm to launch an investigation.

Parson won $200 000 from the continental reality show competition last year and was also given $50 000 by President Robert Mugabe for representing the country well in the game.

Meanwhile, radio personality Munyaradzi Milimo aka DJ Munya, who was arrested last Friday on allegations of kidnapping and murdering Ortneal Tinashe Magorimbo, was by yesterday still held in police custody assisting detectives with investigations.

Police spokesperson Andrew Nyathi said investigations were still going on and they were awaiting a post-mortem report from doctors to determine the gravity of his charges.

Munya is accused of poisoning Magorimbo after suspecting he was having an affair with his wife who works for a local medical aid clinic in the capital. – Xolisani Ncube
