HARARE – Twenty- three finalists, who are in the running for the Miss Carnival Queen and Miss Heritage Zimbabwe title, will begin an eight-day camp at Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare on Thursday.
The official induction dubbed “Carnival Queen Sashing Ceremony” will be held at the same venue on Friday.
The contestants are going to undergo grooming during their one-week camp in preparation for the big day.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s Salome Chari told the Daily News that Miss Carnival Queen and Miss Heritage Zimbabwe will be crowned on May 17.
“We have partnered with Miss Heritage World and on May 17 we will crown Miss Carnival Queen, while the first runner-up will be crowned Miss Heritage Zimbabwe,” said Chari.
“This is the first time that we are going to run a pageantry which has two queens only.”
Miss Heritage Zimbabwe was involved in the auditions which selected the 23 finalists and will play a critical role until the crowning of Miss Carnival Queen and Miss Heritage Zimbabwe.
Chari said international pageantry standards were applied during auditions held in Mutare, Masvingo, Gweru, Bulawayo and Harare.
“We used international pageantry qualifications which emphasise confidence, height and elegance.
“We considered that our Queen must be a person who can lead the procession in Zimbabwe — that was the criterion we used to select finalists for the pageantry,” said Chari.
Miss Carnival Queen will walk away with an attractive package of prizes which includes $20 000 cash prize, a car and monthly allowance throughout her reign.
The contestants who will battle it out for the two titles are: Rumbidzai Machipanda, Victoria Ndudzo, Mitchelle Bingepinge, Heather Masimba, Chenai Chaendera, Blessing Mukumene, Victoria Chidarikire, Paidamoyo Muzondo, Tsitsi Shoniwa, Shermaine Dhliwayo, Fungai Mazhambe, Primrose Peterson, Michelle Tembo, Nokwazi Chikanya, Marble Nyathi, Chantel L.
