Injured Murape out of Shabanie tie

HARARE – Dynamos captain Murape Murape will miss today’s Castle Premiership match against Shabanie Mine at Maglas Stadium after he picked up an injury against CA Bizertin in the African Champions League on Sunday.

Murape, who had a good game in Dynamos’ 1-0 win against the Tunisians, was replaced by Tichaona Mabvura in the second half after picking a thigh injury following a collision with Bizertin defender Ahmed Harran and has not yet recovered to make the trip to Zvishavane.

The Glamour Boys bowed out of the competition at the hands of CA Bizertin following a 3-1 aggregate defeat marking a three year running that the Zimbabwean champions have failed to reach the group stages of Africa’s premier inter-club competition.

And after that demoralising first round exit in the Champions League, Dynamos returns to Premiership action today hoping for a redemption and midfielder Tawanda Muparati said they have put their Champions League disappointment behind.

DeMbare have had a difficult start to the 2013 Castle Premiership season as they have only picked up two points from a possible six after draws against Black Mambas and Chicken Inn during the Easter weekend.

“Obviously everyone was disappointed by our exit from the Champions league but it’s now water under the bridge. We have talked about it and we are now focused with league,” Muparati told Daily News yesterday.

“It was a big disappointment especially if you consider that our opponents was just average. I think the three goals we conceded in Tunisia was our biggest let-down.

“We are now looking forward to start picking up maximum points. I think we need to win our game against Shabanie tomorrow so that we put our campaign back on track. We still have a long way to go and this is the time to work on our shortcomings.”

Muparati did concede it will not be an easy season for them as all teams will be geared to dispatch the reigning champions off their perch following two very successful seasons that have seen them win all the important silverware.

“We have been champions for the past two years and expectations are very high again this season for us to win the championship. But obviously other teams will not make it easy for us. It’s going to be a tough season for us,” said the midfielder.

“We will be counting on experience from the previous campaigns and I hope we will triumph again this year. I am sure it will be an exciting season.”

Shabanie Mine will be seeking to collect their first points of the year following a slow start which saw them losing 2-0 to Highlanders in their first game of the season before they were thumped 3-0 by newly promoted Triangle.

The asbestos miners are desperate for the three points as further losses would see the relegation candidates tag stick to them very early in the season.

The last time the Glamour Boys visited Maglas was in a league match and the two teams played a goalless draw last season.

Today’s match will be live on SuperSport 9.

Premiership action continues tomorrow with high riding FC Platinum hosting Chicken Inn at Mandava Stadium in a match which will also be beamed live on SuperSport.

The Zvishavane platinum miners now under the guidance of former Hwange coach Tenant Chilumba have a 100 percent record after three games.

That good early season form has seen Platinum rise to the top of the league table where they are joined by Highlanders on nine points.

Platinum’s opponents this afternoon, Chicken Inn are not very far away having won two and drawn once in their opening three matches.
