Comedian Ncube to tour Malawi

HARARE – Stand-up comedian Carl Joshua Ncube will this month join forces with popular Malawian humourist Daliso Chaponda in a tour set for Malawi.

Ncube’s Malawi show, which will also include Ugandan comedian Salvado, will be at the Bingu International Conference Centre on April 20.

Zimbabwe’s top comedian told the Daily News that he has already started preparations for the Malawian show. He will host two shows at Alliance Francaise on April 11 and 12.

“I am doing new material shows where I will try out new material I intend to use during my tour this year”, said the National Arts Merit Award (Nama) winner.

“I will be performing to an intimate audience with the ability to answer questions at the end. This will give me the chance to measure up and see where I can improve,” he said.

Ncube told the Daily News that the Malawi show would make the first part of his international tour this year.

“I am touring the Unite Kingdom in June, the United States later in the year and South Africa in September,” he said.

The Malawi show will not be the first time Ncube, Chaponda and Salvado have performed together.

The trio took part in the Stand Up Africa Show held in South Africa in February along with Uganda David Kibuuka, Basketmouth, born Bright Okpocha from Nigeria, Kenyan Eric Omondi and Kagiso Legida from South Africa.

The Nama laureate believes Stand Up Africa was a good launchpad for him.

“Stand Up Africa was huge for me. It was a blitz on DSTV, Comedy Central was on board as well and it was all over the papers, billboards and so forth.

“The media really showed us off to South Africa and others around the continent. It was great being labelled one of the top African comedians”.

While in South Africa Ncube also appeared on the SABC children television entertainment programme YoTv as a guest as well as on Good Morning Africa on the Africa Magic Channel.

The Nama award winner has also performed in Nigeria and Botswana.

He has broadened his entertainment skills by creating a cooking show titled Carl can Cook. – Entertainment Writer
