Injuries worries for Dynamos

BIZERTE – Zimbabwean champions Dynamos, who arrived here yesterday, have a few injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s African Champions League first round qualifier against Tunisian side Club Athletic Bizertin.

The Glamour Boys are hoping midfielder Tawanda Muparati, who has a fractured index finger, will be fit to face Bizertin in two days time at the October 15 Stadium.

Muparati suffered the injury two weeks ago in the preliminary round clash with Lesotho Correctional Services in Maseru.

DeMbare team doctor Kudzai Masunda said: “Generally our players are fit but we have Tawanda, who had a fracture on his little finger about two weeks ago.

“We hope it’s getting better because you need about two to three weeks for it to get better but we will assess him again on Sunday. I’m sure he will be fit to play, it’s not a big problem.”

Another player carrying a knock is new striker Francisco Zekumbawira, who has a sore thigh after a clash with a teammate in training at the beginning of the week.

Midfielder Devon Chafa is suffering from a groin tear and the DeMbare technical team is worried the cold weather might inflame the injury.

Left-back Ocean Mushure is another player on the casualty list with a knock on his ankle.

“There are also others who have a few niggling injuries but we will assess them as well on Sunday,” said Masunda.

“We also had a long flight to get here and we will also assess how they copped, but I’m sure they will be 100 percent fit on Sunday.”

The Glamour Boys were welcomed by a cold spell upon their arrival in the coastal town of Bizerte.

On the cold weather, Masunda said: “We looked at the weather before we came here when we were still in Harare. Today should be the coldest day of the spell and by Sunday the temperature should pick up to be above 20 Degrees Celsius.”  – Nigel Matongorere in Tunisia
