Freeman ditches manager
HARARE – Dancehall artiste Freeman whose real name is Emegy Chizanga and his manager Hilary “Punchline” Mutake have parted ways.
Mutake, who runs Punchline Entertainment and has been managing and promoting the dancehall artiste ever since he burst on the musical scene, admitted the fallout.
“Yes it is true that I am no longer Freeman’s manager, but I still do his marketing. We had a disagreement, but we still talk,” he said.
He, however, refused to divulge reasons that caused them to part ways.
“You know there are people who want to reap where they did not sow, that is basically what happened.
“There are people who came between us and wanted us to separate.
“I have known Freeman for years now, I knew him way before he became famous and I helped him in his career. Then there are people who now want to come in between us after we have come this far,” he said.
Mutake insists he has nothing against Freeman and has just organised a United Kingdom gig that will feature the dancehall star.
“We have gigs which we will hold in the United Kingdom that will involve Lady Squanda and Jay C.
“I still market Freeman’s music through our website.
“On March 23, 29 and 30 we will be outside the country entertaining fans in the UK,” he said.
Freeman now has a new manager, Watson Kasela who has reportedly been managing him since March last year.
“Things change as you grow but we are still in good books. Hillary no longer manages me, but markets my music. We still conduct business together, but he is no longer my manager,” said the dancehall doctor.
Freeman said they did not communicate the changes to the media because they didn’t want unnecessary attention.
“Like I said I still do business with Hilary. Also my new manager did not want to be in the limelight, but that’s how it has been like since last year,” he said.
