Zim’s Ashwell in running for MX1 title
HARARE – Local motocross rider Jayden Ashwell crawled back into contention for the MX1 title following a scintillating performance in Wednesday night’s Supercoss heat at the on-going Zimbabwe Summer Series.
After a disappointing showing on day one of the Summer Series on Saturday, Ashwell upped the tempo to rediscover the form that saw him claim the MX1 local club championship this year.
In a high octane MX1 class that has already seen the premature exit of leading Zimbabwean rider Sean Mitchell, Ashwell displayed good technique and control to finish first ahead of South African Richard Van Der Westhuizen and Botswana’s Ross Branch.
That performance sees Ashwell occupy second place behind pacesetter Van Der Westhuizen on the MX1 class standings, with two more rounds remaining.
If Ashwell can replicate Wednesday night’s performance in the remaining rounds, it puts him in good stead to add another accolade to his trophy cabinet.
In the 50 A class, South Africa’s Jomo Mulimi strengthened his number one position on the current Summer Series 50 A class standings after a first place finish.
Zimbabwe’s Big Chitima Jnr is currently in second place ahead of Mudiwa Chigumba.
Devon Cocker of Zambia leads the 65 A class while Zimbabwe’s James Harrison is in second place.
