HARARE – Comedian Carl Joshua Ncube is back in Zimbabwe after a successful tour of America, sponsored by the United States Embassy.
Ncube, who is on a mission to help the revival of comedy in Zimbabwe said the experience was enlightening as he impressed other comics.
The comedian secured a place at the American Comedy Institute, New York.
“We were holding comedy workshops in different cities and I learnt a lot. One thing I am really proud of is that one of the lecturers pointed out how intelligent I am and that I should fully utilise that to go far in the profession.
“I think that is one strong point I have as people expect less from a Zimbabwean. It usually happens when I go on stage as people do not expect much and are quite surprised when I start performing,” he said.
Ncube will have to raise funds for his studies at the American Comedy Institute.
“It is a year-long comedy course which starts in September next year and all I need is to get money.”
The comedian said he enjoyed educating other comics about Zimbabwe.
The funny man has a lot to share with the other comedians.
“I learnt how to build a comedy industry and the avenues that one can use to make things work. I have been doing some of the stuff by myself and the additional material will be put to great use.
“I have always said that the onus is on each individual comedian to help market themselves and these are some of the things we were taught. We are living in good times and are blessed with the internet. It can do amazing things for you and I can now connect with all the comedians I want through it. The local guys must utilise the internet and I will be very glad to help out with things that I learnt,” he said.
Ncube has performed in Nigeria, South Africa, and Botswana and is arguably the most determined comedian of this generation.
He has shared the stage with the likes of Basketmouth, Daliso Chaponda, David Kibuuka, Ndumiso Lindi and Kagiso Lediga.
