HARARE – Midfield wizard Denver Mukamba was last night, as largely expected, named Dynamos’ player of the season following a dazzling season with the record Zimbabwe champions.
The 20-year-old playmaker was crowned in absentia at a glittering club end-of-season awards ceremony in the capital last night.
Mukamba is currently undergoing trials at South African Premiership outfit Bidvest Wits, where he is hoping to impress “The Students”, who are looking to bolster their attack options in the January mid-season transfer window.
His award carries a $5 000 prize.
The lanky midfielder, who is also tipped to land the coveted Castle Soccer Stars award following a season in which his unmatched talent shone throughout, was the leading light in Dynamos’ successful defence of their league and cup double in the just-ended season.
Steady defender Patson Jaure, impressive throughout the year only in his debut Premiership season, was voted Players’ Player of the Year and walked away with $3 000. Jaure completed a remarkable double by being named the club’s Most Improved Player, receiving a further $1 500.
The Best Rookie accolade went to forward Farai Mupasiri, who received a cheque of $1 500.
Veteran midfielder Desmond Maringwa was named Most Loyal Player while fullback Ocean Mushure was named Most Disciplined Player and club captain Tawanda Muparati Most Consistent Player. Their awards are worth $1 500, $1 250 and $1 500 respectively.
The awards were sponsored by club sponsor BancABC.
The 19 times Zimbabwean champions will represent the country again during next year’s African Champions League after another all-conquering season at home.
Last season, the Glamour Boys crashed out of Africa’s premier club competition in the early stages following a 6-0 annihilation at the hands of Tunisian giants Esperance.
