Ammara, Patience, Adiona in rare concert
HARARE – Shimmering young stars Ammara Brown, Patience Musa and Adiona Maboreke will be lighting Harare skies at the popular Book Café tomorrow.
The music acts will be backed by the band Cynergy led by Bernie Bismark, a powerful lineup of young women artistes with great music performances, joining the conscious campaign against gender violence in the global 16 Days Campaign.
Ammara, Patience and Adiona — solo artistes working under the BB Music management stable — will join forces in a not-to-be-missed performance, with each woman delivering her unique set list of original music and popular Zimbabwean favourites, as well as performing together to show the power of women’s creative talent over gender violence.
Brown is a wonderful talent who has emerged strongly onto the public stage in Harare over the past year, with striking vocals and strong stage presence.
While obviously inheriting certain musical genes from her late father, the great Zimbabwean guitarist Andy Brown, Ammara’s music is uniquely her own, and an unforgettable experience can be expected from this charismatic performer, who explodes into life on stage.
Musa has blossomed from the shy little girl of her youth and early days performing in the local jazz arena as lead singer with groups such as The Other Four, and more recently Jazz Invitation into an elegant young singer-songwriter honed over the years by life’s curves and passions, and now extending her range to include an ecletic repertoire spanning jazz, soul, and R&B.
Patience pulls those “numbers” that appeal directly to the heart!
Adiona is up-and-coming, and making waves on the pop music scene with her catchy single, All Women.
A finalist of the TV music competition series Idols East Africa.
Adiona has also performed over the last few years with groups such as the all-women acapella group African Voice, and the exciting collaboration of women’s voices Wo-Calling which sold-out at Hifa in 2010 and later at The Mannenberg, Book Café’s sister club at its old location in Fife Avenue.
Bismark is a highly accomplished, visionary musician, jazz pianist, songwriter, music teacher, producer, director and mentor, whose list of accomplishments are truly impressive.
Back in Zimbabwe in the last few years after hard years of learning and performing in the US, Bernie has been working with artistes of all persuasions, in support of jazz, soul, r&b, theatre and music festivals.
Bernie will lead the gifted young artistes of the band Cynergy who are making a name for themselves on the local music scene.
These four women are a tour-de-force and tomorrow’s concert promises to be a very special one with an exciting combination of gifted voices and talented musicians, and a united voice against gender violence. – Own Correspondent
