Lady Squanda ‘nurses’ City Sports Bar
HARARE – Ever-rising dancehall queen Lady Squanda real name Sandra Gazi is performing at City Sports Bar in Harare tonight in a show promising to be the gig of the week.
Lady Squanda has more than 20 songs under her belt including Sadza, Dancehall Doctor and Neshungu, a collaboration with Freeman among others.
She said she chose the dancehall genre because she felt it is not well represented in terms of gender.
“I realised that there were not many, if any girls in the dancehall genre in Zimbabwe.
“The majority are into gospel or R ‘n’ B. I chose dancehall as the sisters are not really represented in this genre,” said the 20-year-old musician.
Lady Squanda as she is affectionately known by her fans fearlessly challenged tune for tune her male counterparts on the C and A Entertainment-organised concert in Harare Gardens recently where she presented a female panty to Badman as a present on stage.
“The panty symbolises woman, so I was telling him that he is not a man in terms of music but a little girl,” she said.
On Saturday, Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo is returning to his hunting ground City Sports Bar while Holy’s Hotel is hosting the band Too Open tomorrow.
The joint proprietor Biggie Chinoperekwei said City Sports Bar is the home of Moyo.
“City Sports Bar is the home of the Moyos. We were the first to give Peter the floor to perform, while Tongai was still alive.
“Peter was supposed to perform at the venue the very day Tongai passed away and for this reason Peter is our child,” said Chinoperekwei in a previous interview with the Daily News.
Beverly “Bev” Sibanda and her Sexy Angels have entered into an agreement with a Bulawayo joint —The Basement where the raunchy dancer would be a regular at the joint.
Tonight, Bev is performing in Bulawayo where she is expected to gyrate at the Basement before moving to Gwanda’s Riverbank on Saturday.
On Sunday, Bev is returning to Bulawayo for a show at Metropolitan Bar.
The Tube Nite Club is hosting sungura musician Howard “Watenzi” Pinjisi tonight.
Watenzi is riding high with his newly-released album Chenjedzo.
The must-listen to album carries six tracks including Makandigonera, January Disease, Zororai Wasekwa, Vashamarari, Razaro and Yeso.
Born in Mutoko’s Katsukunya area in 1983, the Orchestra Ndorochena frontman has three albums under his belt.
Upcoming sungura groups in and around Marondera are set to put Tandarai Tavern in the farming town on fire tomorrow.
RGB Top Sungura, Faheem Somanje and Tokudai Mese Stars, Kenge Mupombera and 5 Penga Penga, Mabhodha and Crew, Patrick Jivason and Dadiso Express, Wedza Stars and among others are expected to share the stage in a gig dubbed Sungura Explosion Chapter 1.

The group has not been on the music scene for five years and it has suddenly resurfaced with a new name Diamond Musica (New Image) and is now under the leadership of Pitshou Lumiere.

Youthful sungura musician Obvious Mutani is resuming shows and tonight and tomorrow the Sungano Express frontman is performing at Chingazhou Bar in Southland, Harare.
Mutani is supported by Zambe Mafios of Hope Kings.
Mutani released his fifth album titled Saizvozvo Mukwasha recently.
This follows Loaded Weapon released in 2011, Rufaro Kwamuri of 2010, Toisa Kuvanhu of 2009 and his debut album Marudzi Dananai of 2007.
BV Labien Musica, a rhumba outfit is performing at Moonlight Nite Club in Chitungwiza’s Makoni area tonight and the group is sharing the stage with the upcoming sungura musician Zaka Zaka and his Chilli band.
