DStv launches new channels
HARARE – As A way of providing more entertainment to its growing audiences, DStv’s M-Net is launching new movie channels starting from October 1, 2012 under the theme, A Movie for Every Mood.
M-Net has also made changes to the existing channels, changing channel location and names.
For example M-Net Action will now be called M-Net Movies Action while M-Net Stars will assume the name M-Net Movies Stars.
The eight movie channels will be themed according to their type.
The channels include M-Net Movies Premiere, M-Net Movies Comedy, M-Net Movies Family, M-Net Action Plus, M-Net Movies Drama and Romance and M-Net Movies Showcase.
Movies released by Hollywood studios will first be screened on M Premiere or on M-Net on a Sunday night at 8pm.
Thereafter, the movie will be screened again on the relevant themed channel.
The themed channels will also screen niche movies related to that theme.
There were only two channels (M-Net Action and M-Net Stars) which focused on movies but now viewers have a choice of more than two.
Multichoice public relations and publicity manager, Elizabeth Dziva explained further on the new channels.
“The new channels have been added to the existing bouquets, only Premium subscribers will get new channels with the exception of Compact and Compact Plus subscribers who will get an additional channel in the form of Africa Magic Movies 1,” she said.
She added that the boutique prices still remain the same.
Dziva said DStv recently launched a new satellite that has necessitated the addition of more channels.
“We recently launched a new satellite which will give us the ability to offer you more channels and services. In order to accommodate these new channels and to make channel navigation more user-friendly, we rearranged the channels into genres which has resulted in some of the channel positions and hence numbers changing.”
“We believe that the new channel numbering will improve the overall navigation and viewing experience on DStv.”
Please be assured that we have taken every care to ensure there is as little disruption, and change to your viewing routine, as possible — for example the news, children’s and sports channels will not change channel numbers.
“These changes will happen automatically on the morning of October 1, and you do not need to do anything on your decoder except ensure that it remains plugged into your power source. Once this process is complete we recommend that you check your programme reminders and parental guidance controls to ensure they are still correct according to your viewing requirements.”
“Please also note that due to the change in channel numbers you will need to delete and reschedule all your recordings including time-based recordings,” said Dziva.
As a way to curb confusion on the re-numbering, information on the reshuffle can be obtained from DStv’s official website.
Channel 198 which is usually dedicated to Big Brother Reality Show will be used to help viewers navigate the channel number changes. It will be hosted by Big Brother host, IK.
DStv has been proving popular especially with middle class families in Zimbabwe, with locals preferring it over the sole television channel, ZBC.
It offers wide range of programmes that cater for everyone including children, adults and the elderly for a fee.
DStv has managed to diversify its content and caters for people of various religions.
