3KTV, the country’s leading television channel, has once again claimed the Popular Television Station award at the prestigious Zimbabwe Annual Film and Television Awards (ZAFTAs) held at Kingston House in Harare over the weekend.
Broadcast live on 3Ktv, the event – organised by the Cinema Society of Zimbabwe (CSZ), the ZAFTAs honour outstanding contributions from actors, directors, producers, writers, presenters, and technicians who continue to shape the nation’s creative landscape – brought together Zimbabwe’s top creative talent to celebrate excellence in film and television.
“This win proves that we are indeed The Best of Zimbabwe,” said 3Ktv Station Manager Abigail Mvududu. The night was filled with memorable moments, including a hilarious performance by comedian Chipenzi and lively music from Zinaraya Band.
The channel’s productions dominated the awards, with notable wins for Inkaba, Love and Reality: Village 4, and Bundu. John Mabuyane received the Outstanding Directing for a Television Production award for Inkaba.
Although popular presenter Mazwi, known for Zim Uncovered, failed to defend her Outstanding Television Presenter title, Joylene Ismail of The Design Show took home the honor this year. Head of Programming Lucia Kanyongo expressed pride in 3Ktv’s achievements “As 3Ktv, we are thrilled with the recognition of our productions and team.
“These awards reflect the quality of our work and inspire us to keep striving for greatness,” she told the Daily News.
Last year’s edition of the awards were equally successful for 3Ktv, with wins for Outstanding Television Presenter (Mazwi), Outstanding Television Actor (Lucian David), Outstanding Television Series (Faking It), and Outstanding Indigenous Culture, Language, and Tradition (Hakata). Amanxeba swept four categories, including Outstanding Directing and Popular Television Series.
This year’s ceremony also honoured industry legends Dorothy Chidzawo, Charles Sekete, Joice Jenje Makwenda, and Anthony Fortune Ruzugunde with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their enduring contributions to storytelling and cultural preservation.
The event concluded by celebrating Zimbabwe’s international cultural ambassadors. Danai Gurira, Chipo Chung, Arnold Chirisa, and Chiedza Mhende received accolades as Outstanding Cultural Ambassadors, highlighting their efforts in promoting Zimbabwean talent on the global stage.
