All roads will lead to City Sports Bar in Harare today as Sungura ace Peter Moyo, popularly known as Dehwa the son of the late Sungura legend Tongai Moyo, takes to the stage by public demand.

The top Sungura musician expressed excitement ahead of the show, saying he is eager to reconnect with his fans in the capital. Moyo is set to perform tracks from his latest album Matsimba Emurozvi, which has been well received by fans across the country.

City Sports Bar, a well-known entertainment joint in Harare’s city centre, has built a reputation for promoting local talent. It was previously famous for its popular Monday Jam Session, a weekly platform that allowed upcoming artistes to showcase their talent for free while refining their craft.

However, the venue has since shifted its focus to hosting established Sungura bands every month-end, raising the bar for live entertainment and catering to lovers of the genre. The shows are also supported by top DJs, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere for patrons.

Dancers Association of Zimbabwe (DAZ) president, Hapaguti Mapimhidze, who is also the proprietor of City Sports Bar, said the initiative is aimed at delivering consistent, high-quality entertainment.

“We now host a seasoned Sungura artiste every month-end to ensure we give our patrons the best entertainment experience,” said Mapimhidze.

“We used to have Monday Jam Sessions every week, but we have moved a level higher by bringing in established Sungura artistes each month, and this will be done without fail.”

Mapimhidze added that the initiative also plays a role in promoting positive social values.

“We are champions in the fight against drug and substance abuse and idleness. No band will be left out as we already have a lineup running until the end of the year,” he said.
